FAQ about the myVRN app - english
This page is still under construction and is constantly being expanded and supplemented.
Register & Account
Do I have to register?
No – lots of myVRN’s functionality are available without having an account. Only when one wants to pruchase tickets, log into a check-in check.out trip or one wants to take out a subscription for Deutschland-Ticket, one needs an VRN-Account.
How do I set up an account?
Choose „VRN Account“ in the sidebar and start the registration process.
Currently, only persons who are fully legally competent can register, or if the information is confirmed by a legally authorized representative.
First up, the e-mail-address and password are set (minimum requirements for password: at least 8 characters in a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers from 0 to 9 and symbols). Underneath this section information on name, gender and date of birth is required and one needs to agrre tot he terms and conditions as well as to the ….policy
An e-mail with a link will arrive next in the provided inbox. This Link leads to the completion of the registration process by requesting Data regarding address and method of payment. Currently we allow debit cards, credit cards and PayPal as means of payment.
Depending on your individual settings in the relevant accounts of debit card, credit card or PayPal, there might be additional verification steps like OTP or fingerprint.
Once the means of payment has been confirmed your registration process is complete. You will receive an email informing you about the completion.
You can now start making purchases in myVRN.
What is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is an additional security layer for authenticating the cardholder during registration. Two factors are requested that only the cardholder knows. The exact procedure depends on the card-issuing bank and, if applicable, your own settings (e.g. PIN/TAN entry or fingerprint). In addition, the card-issuing bank is obliged to carry out authentication for every purchase process. The card-issuing bank also determines the method of authentication for purchases. If you have any questions about the 3D Secure procedure with your chosen payment method, please contact your card-issuing bank.
I have not received an activation link
The activation link is sent immediately by e-mail after you have selected the ‘Register’ option, filled in the fields and clicked on the ‘Create account’ button. If you have not received an e-mail, please check your spam folder. It is also possible that your inbox is full, which is why the email cannot be delivered. In this case, please ensure that emails can be delivered again. Now select the ‘Login’ option and try to log in. When you try to log in, you will see a message and a new activation link will be created and sent by email.
I am having problems with the activation link
There may be several reasons why the activation link is not working:
1) The activation link was clicked, the information on the ‘Registrierung abschließen’ page was confirmed by clicking on the ‘Zum nächsten Schritt’ button, the page for setting up the payment method was visited and the user returned to the ‘Registrierung abschließen’ page. An error message appears stating that the link is no longer valid and that the user should contact customer service. Once you have entered your address details and clicked on the ‘Zum nächsten Schritt’ button, the registration process is complete. Your VRN account has now been created.
Solution: To set up your payment method, log in to your VRN Account with your access data and select the ‘Configure payment method’ option.
2) The activation link is clicked after 24 hours. The ‘Registrierung abschließen’ page opens. When attempting to confirm the address details by clicking on the ‘Zum nächsten Schritt’ button, an error message appears. The activation link has expired and the incomplete customer account has been blocked.
Solution: A new activation link must be requested via myVRN@rnv-online.de.
3) The activation link was ignored, and an attempt was made to log in directly to the VRN Account. An error message appears when attempting to log in. At the same time, a new activation link is created and sent by email.
Solution: This new activation link must be clicked on promptly, and registration can now be continued.
What features can I use without registering?
myVRN has many features that can be used without registering. First and foremost of course there are route planning and real-time departure tables.
Via the sidebar a list of taxi services throughout the VRN area is accesible; this list is in alphabetical order.
Also via the sidebar on the left you can access „settings“ wher you can define whether you want to use the app in light or dark mode, whether you need to limit walking time to 5 minutes, exclude buses from any connections you plan, which icons do you want displayed in the icon bar at the bottom? – all this and much more can be set here.
Even without an account you can see the information on the different ticket options and ticket prices of the connections within VRN, but to purchase tickets, take out a subscription for Deutschland-Ticket or use the check-in – check-out system „VRN Luftlinientarif“, one needs an account and needs to be logged in.
I forgot my password
In the side menu (3 bars), you can find "VRN Account." If you are not logged in, the option "Log In" is available.
By tapping on "Log In" and then on "Forgot Password," a window will open where you can enter the email address you used to register. Shortly after submitting, an automatically generated email with a link to reset your password will arrive. If this does not happen, please first check your spam folder or verify that the entered email address was correct.
When resetting your password, please follow the rules: at least 8 characters in a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters. If you do not receive an email or the reset does not work, please send an email to myVRN@rnv-online.de
How can I change my password?
In the side menu (3 bars), you can find „VRN Account.“ Once logged in, tap on '“hange Login Data“' then in the top line on „Password“.
After entering the current password, you can set a new password.
When creating a new password, please pay attention to the rules: at least 8 characters in a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
If the password reset does not work, please send an email to myVRN@rnv-online.de.
How can I delete my VRN Account?
In the side menu (3 bars), you can find "VRN Account." Once logged in, tap on "Change Login Data," then in the top line, select "Delete Account."
After entering your password, you will be asked if you really want to delete your account. After confirming "Delete Account," the account will be deleted.
Please note: Claims from LOGPAY do not expire with the deletion of the customer account.
Means of payment
What means of payment are available?
Debit cards, credit cards and PayPal are available as payment methods in the myVRN app. Our payment service provider LOGPAY can carry out a credit check when registering or depositing a new means of payment. Please also note our terms and conditions.
Why can't I specify a SEPA direct debit?
Since July 2024, SEPA has no longer been available for new customers. Existing customers with a SEPA mandate can continue to use it, but can no longer change their SEPA details.
The decision to no longer allow SEPA for new customers or for changes to direct debit arrangements is based on security concerns, particularly regarding the Deutschland-Ticket, which is sold via the app. This monthly cancelable offer necessitated additional security measures.
Registering a payment method is the basis for purchasing a ticket; it is not possible to differentiate between the specific ticket subsequently purchased (Deutschland-Ticket, tickets from the fare system, or Luftlinientarif). Furthermore, providing account details alone is no longer sufficient to effectively prevent misuse. Therefore, all payment methods require additional verification upon registration. For SEPA, this would mean reliable identity verification, e.g., via services like Verimi (bank or photo identification), which would entail additional effort for both customers and the VRN.
In practice, there has also been a significant decline in the use of the SEPA direct debit scheme. Only about 10 percent of customers still use it in the myVRN app. Therefore, VRN has decided to no longer allow SEPA for new registrations in the myVRN app.
The following alternative payment methods are currently available:
• Debit Card/Credit Card (with 3D Secure):
Most bank customers now automatically receive a debit card (Visa or MasterCard) from their bank. This card functions like a credit card but requires a balance and debits the bank account directly. These cards can already be added as a payment method in the myVRN app (you may need to activate their use for online purchases with your bank beforehand).
• PayPal:
PayPal is a widely used payment service provider with high security standards and direct transaction verification. In addition to a debit card or credit card, a bank account can also be linked to PayPal.
How do I register a debit card as a payment method?
Both debit and credit cards are available as payment methods. Further information about debit cards and how to add them to your VRN account for the myVRN app can be found here.
How do I add PayPal (with a bank account or debit card) as a payment method?
PayPal can be added as a payment method to your VRN account for the myVRN app. You can link not only a credit card, but also a debit card or bank account to your PayPal account. Further information about PayPal and how to add your PayPal account to your VRN account for the myVRN app can be found here.
Can I change my means of payment later?
You can switch between debit card, credit card andPayPal at any time. You can also switch between different debit cards, credit cards, and PayPal accounts.
Customers with a SEPA mandate can switch to a debit card, credit card or PayPal.
I would like to remove my payment method completely from the app. How can I do that?
In myVRN, you can use all information functions without an account. A means of payment is only required for bookings, purchases and subscriptions.
If you do not want this, you must delete your myVRN account.
Deutschland-Ticket
All information about the Deutschland-Ticket can be found at https://www.vrn.de/deutschlandticket .
Tickets for occasional trips
I want to travel by bus and train occasionally; which ticket should I buy?
For occasional bus and train journeys, the myVRN-app offers a choice of single tickets as well as “5-Fahrten-Tickets” within the regular fare system. Even without any prior fare knowledge, you can use the “Luftlinientarif” in the myVRN app, which also optimizes prices for the best price.
What is Luftlinientarif?
VRN Luftlinientarif is a booking option where the direct distance between start and end of your journey determines the price.
You check in at the point and time you want to travel; when you arrive at your destination, you check out directly after arrival.
The system then calculates the due amount based on the distance traveled. There is the basic price per journey and the price per kilometer (or part thereof). BahnCard holders can use the reduced basic price until the end of 2025 and the reduced km price of the BC fare.
If there is a cheaper ticket from the regular fare system for the route travelled, the Luftlinientarif is reduced to this cheaper price (fare optimization). That way you always pay the best price.
The maximum price you pay per journey is the price of a single ticket of price level network (Einzel-Ticket Verbundgebiet), per day the maximum is the price of one section of the 5-day pass of price level network (5-Tage-Ticket Verbundgebiet) and per month the maximum is price of the monthly pass of price level network (Monatskarte Verbundgebiet).
Where can I book Luftlinientarif?
You can initiate the check-in for the VRN Luftlinientarif via the “Ticketshop” icon in the myVRN app (bottom menu). You can also initiate the check-in directly from the route planning by tapping on the price.
Please note that the check-in is carried out at the current time and current location - regardless of the data in the route planning.
If you have a BahnCard, you must check whether the BC option is activated before check-in and activate it manually if necessary. The BC-option will be available until the end of 2025.
I have checked into Luftlinientarif. Why am I receiving a message from my payment provider stating that €5 has been reserved?
To ensure that the customer's payment method can be debited with the amount due at the end of a Luftlinie booking, LOGPAY reserves the amount of 5,00 € during the check-in process.
The reservation of the 5,00 € will be nulled and replaced by the actual calculated fare when the trip is completed by check-out.
This information can also be found in §7 (3) of the T&C
Although the information about the cancellation of LOGPAY is transmitted directly to the customer's payment service, the reservation may still be visible for a while in the app or on the payment service's website.
Can I take other people with me when I use Luftlinientarif ?
If you are traveling in a group, you can take up to 4 passengers with you on your Luftlinie booking. Simply increase the number of passengers accordingly on the check-in page (“Where are you boarding?”). Each passenger will be charged 50% of the optimized best price [standard fare, rounded] for the journey. 1st class use can also be combined with the carriage of up to 4 passengers.
Can I also use 1st class when using Luftlinientarif ?
If you would like to use 1st carriage class when traveling by train, you can also indicate this directly on the check-in page. A surcharge of 50% [rounded] of the optimized best price is payable for travel in 1st class.
1st class use can also be combined with the carriage of up to 4 passengers. For each of the passengers, 50% of the optimized best price 1st class [standard fare, rounded] is due for the journey.
I have a BahnCard. Does this affect Luftlinientarif
If you have a valid BahnCard, you can also select this on the check-in page. You will then be charged at the corresponding BC-Luftlinientarifen for the basic price and kilometers.
When combining BahnCard and passengers, only the main user receives the BC discount - the passengers pay 50% of the optimized standard fare [rounded].
When combining BahnCard and 1st class, the BahnCard must also cover 1st class use.
Note: The BC discount for the Luftlinientarif and the BC-Ticket will be offered until the end of 2025 (for technical reasons, check-in is possible until 11 p.m. on 31 December 2025). This offer will be discontinued from 2026 onwards. The reason for this is that Deutsche Bahn submitted a new offer which would have meant that transport companies in the VRN area would have had to accept a significant permanent reduction in revenue – without receiving any compensation. The transport companies therefore decided to allow the agreement to expire.
I would like to travel by Luftlinientarif this afternoon. Can I pre-book this?
The VRN Luftlinientarif only works as a booking option for “here and now”. You can neither check in in advance for a later date or time, nor for an address where you are not currently located. Advance bookings are therefore not possible.
Ticket purchase
Can I purchase tickets for my child/ my children or for another person?
When traveling together, you can also purchase tickets for other people. However, a subscription cannot be taken out for another person.
Ticket purchase for others: after selecting the type of ticket (via „Plan Route“ or from „Ticket Shop“) – for example, a single ticket for a child or a day ticket for a group, you tap on the word 'Me' under 'Ticket Holder' and enter the first name and last name of the ticket user. During a check, you show your own ticket and that of the accompanying ticket holder.
It is also possible to use the parent-child function (Bezahlungsübernahme). Further information is available here.
Can I store my BahnCard data in my account?
The BahnCard cannot be stored in the customer data. However, when purchasing BC-Tickets, you can normally select the discounted tickets through "Plan route" or "Ticketshop."
When using the VRN check-in – check-out system „VRN Luftlinientarif“ you must confirm your eligibility for the BahnCard discount before check-in. This is done by sliding the toggle to the right under "Bahncard" after entering the start stop ("Where do you get on?").
During a check, you must present the BahnCard without being asked
Can somebody travel with me on my ticket?
Depending on which ticket you use, different rules for bringing along passengers apply.
According to our fare regulations, you can take an unlimited number of children under 6 years old for free with any valid VRN ticket. The fare regulations of the Deutschland-Ticket also state that these children can travel for free with the ticket holder.
For the VRN Day Ticket and the VRN Family Day Ticket, there is a special rule for bringing your own children or grandchildren: an unlimited number of your own family children and grandchildren up to and including 14 years old can travel for free with mom, dad, aunt, grandma, etc.. With the VRN Group Day Ticket, the ticket holder can take up to 4 people over 6 years old.
The VRN check-in – check-out system „VRN Luftlinientarif“ allows the registered main user to book up to 4 accompanying passengers. For each of these passengers, a 50% reduced best price for the journey will apply at the end of the trip. It should be noted that any BahnCard discount applicable to the main user does not affect the fare for accompanying passengers—even if one or more accompanying passengers also have a BahnCard. The BahnCard discount is valid until the end of 2025. The offer will be discontinued from 2026 onwards.
In some cases, a Day Ticket, Family Day Ticket, or Group Day Ticket may be cheaper—especially if you are traveling multiple times in one day with the same people and/or traveling longer distances and/or bringing family children. If such trips are planned, it is advisable to compare prices in advance using "Plan Route."
Can I print tickets purchased in myVRN?
No – tickets purchased in myVRN are available for paperless use on public transport and are therefore only issued digitally.
Travel at the Luftlinientarif
How do I start a journey?
To use the Luftlinientarif, select it via "Plan route" or "Ticketshop." You must allow the app access to your location. Then, select the suggested start stop. Alternatively, choose your start stop from the list of nearby stops. You can also manually enter a stop, provided it is nearby. On the check-in page, you can adjust further settings, such as bringing additional passengers, booking first class, or using your BahnCard (only until the end of 2025). Finally, confirm your journey start and ticket purchase by clicking the "Paid check-in" button.
Can I start a journey using the timetable information?
Yes, this is possible. Select a connection using the "Plan route" option and then confirm your selection using the "Check-In" button. You can then adjust further settings on the Check-In page to finalize your journey.
Can I buy tickets for Luftlinientarif in advance?
No, the ticket is validated immediately upon purchase and can therefore only be used at the time of departure.
My bus/train is delayed, but I've already started a journey using the Luftlinientarif
The ticket can be purchased before boarding the vehicle. The price is calculated later based on the distance between the check-in and check-out stops. We strongly recommend checking in shortly before departure in case your plans change (for example, if you need to switch to another mode of transport).
Why can't I check in?
Check-in requires logging into the app. You also need to ensure that your saved payment method is active and a purchase is possible. Additionally, location services must be enabled and an internet connection must be available. Finally, a nearby start stop must be selected.
Why can't I check out?
To check out, you need to have an internet connection to determine your correct location.
Do I need to allow location access while traveling with the Luftlinientarif?
Location access must be allowed for the entire journey so that the route can be tracked. You must also allow location access for check-out to determine the correct destination stop.
Do I need to keep the app open while traveling with the direct route fare?
No, the app can be closed during the journey. However, if you log out of the app or force it to close, thus ending all ongoing processes, you will be automatically checked out.
Do I need an internet connection while traveling with the Luftlinientarif?
The ticket will also be displayed offline if an internet connection is available at the start of the journey. However, the internet connection is used to transmit your location and therefore must remain active for the entire duration of the journey.
What do I need to know when changing vehicles?
The Luftlinientarif applies to a one-way journey. If you change vehicles directly during your journey, you don't need to do anything else. A direct change means using the next available connection. For a return journey, you must start a new journey, even if it's immediately afterward. Round trips are not permitted.
My stop isn't displayed at the end of the journey. How can I select the correct stop?
The nearest stop on the Check-Out page is displayed as the end stop. If this information is incorrect and there is another stop nearby, you can select the ‘Search near’ option. A selection of nearby stops (less than 500 m away) will open. Select a stop and confirm your selection by clicking on the ‘Confirm’ button. You can also select the exit stop using the ‘Change manually’ option. To do this, enter the exit stop manually. The stop can only be accepted if it is stored in the system and is located in the immediate vicinity.
What happens if I forget to check out?
If you forget to check out, reminders will be sent to you, provided that you allowed message delivery at the start of your journey. The messages will ask you whether you want to continue your journey. You now have the option to check out once your journey has ended. If the message function is deactivated and you still do not end the journey, a so-called ‘cleaner job’ will automatically take effect, which will subsequently perform a check-out via the system. The cleaner job should only be used in an emergency, so check-out must always be performed immediately after the end of the journey. There is no entitlement to a subsequent correction of the journey price.
Invoices/debit notes
Where can I find my ticket purchase invoice?
The invoice can be found in myVRN when you call up the ticket. There are two ways to do this:
1) Click on the currently valid ticket under ‘My Tickets’. This will take you to the ‘Ticket details’ page. At the bottom of the page, you will find the option ‘Download invoice’.
2) Click on ‘Purchase summary’ under ‘VRN ticketshop’. This page shows not only currently valid tickets, but also expired tickets. Select the desired ticket and go to the ‘Ticket details’ page, where you can select the ‘Download invoice’ option at the bottom right.
Can I also receive a collective invoice for multiple orders?
No, unfortunately that is not possible at present. However, we are currently reviewing the requirement.
How is the amount on my bank statement calculated?
In some cases, LOGPAY combines several orders and bills them collectively. If you have any detailed questions about your debit, please contact LOGPAY directly: kundencenter@logpay.de or 06196 80 12 702.
We plan to optimise the traceability of debits. Please bear with us a little longer.
Questions about termination & cancellation
How can I cancel my Deutschland-Ticket subscription?
CCancelling your subscription can easily be initiated right in the ticket itself:
Log in to your VRN account and open the ticket. Underneath the barcode you see a text „Here you can cancel your Deutschland-Ticket subscription“. Tap on the text and in the next step confirm you really wish to cancel.
Shortly after that you receive an email confirming your cancellation including the date of when your subscription ends.
The nationwide regulations for Deutschland-Ticket state that a cancellation initiated on or before the 10th of the current month will end the subscription to the end of the month. Cancellations initiated after the 10th of the current month subsequently end the subscription tot he end of the following month.
I purchased the wrong type of ticket. Can I cancel it/ get a refund?
Digital and online purchases (in-app and print@home) are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
My Deutschland-Ticket subscription got cancelled due to an issue with collecting the money
The payment run for the monthly subscription happens at the end of the preceding
month. Please make sure your means of payment (debit card, credit card or PayPal account) is active and covered at this time. Customers paying by SEPA will see the debit slightly delayed due to several bank days for processing. Customers using the direct debit procedure should therefore also have sufficient funds in their account.
Was your means of payment balanced and you think the cancellation was not justified? In this case it is best to contact our payment service provider LOGPAY directly for clarification, as they manage all payment details and can find out the exact reason for the rejection. LOGPAY can be contacted at kundencenter@logpay.de and +49 6196 80 12 702
You can also try to reorder the subscription after receiving the information email about the cancellation. If this is unsuccessful and you have an alternative means of payment available, please change tot hat alternative payment method and try ordering again. If this is also unsuccessful, please contact LOGPAY.
My Deutschland-Ticket subscription got cancelled. Why can I not order a new subscription? For debit or credit card payments t method
Please first check whether you can access your bank account as normal, whether the connection to the bank account is still active and whether the bank account has sufficient credit. If you are unable to access your bank account or notice irregularities on your bank account, please contact the customer service department of your debit or credit card institution.. If there are insufficient funds in your linked bank account, you will not be able to use the purchase function in myVRN until this is the case. Technical problems
My D-ticket is not being displayed
Tickets that are currently valid can be found in the side menu under “My tickets”. If you have booked a ticket for a later date - e.g. for the next month - you will find this in Ticketshop → Purchase overview → “Valid in the future”.
Expired tickets - e.g. from previous months - can be found there under “Expired”.
The ticket inspector cannot check my ticket with his device
In order to be able to read the barcodes on electronic tickets, the verification devices must have a suitable digital key. Sometimes the keys of transport companies or transport associations change and have to be redistributed to the verification devices. If this is not done in a timely manner, the devices cannot read our tickets.
In addition to the central barcode, our tickets also have other features that allow the inspection staff to verify their authenticity: the dynamic element of the 2-minute clock running backwards indicates that the inspector is not seeing acopy (screenshots of tickets are not possible). Also, the surname, first name and date of birth below the barcode can be compared with the passenger's ID.
I accidentally checked in (Luftlinientarif)
Clicking on the ‘Paid check-in’ button starts the journey and thus the calculation. If the check-in time is less than 5 minutes ago and no distance has been travelled (the end stop must correspond to the start stop), no fare will be charged. To do this, you must click on the ‘Check- Out’ button within 5 minutes for the identical start/end stops.
To use the Luftlinientarif, it is best to first select a connection via ‘Plan route’. Delays are also displayed there, so that you can determine the check-in time more accurately. Once a connection has been selected, click on the ‘Check-In’ button to go to the ‘Check-in’ page. There you can select the start stop and add further details. Finally, confirm the purchase by clicking on the ‘Paid check-in’ button.
I forgot to check out (Luftlinientarif)
If you forget to check out, reminders will be sent to you, provided that you allowed message delivery at the start of your journey. The messages will ask you whether you want to continue your journey. You now have the option to check out once your journey has ended. If the message function is deactivated and you still do not end the journey, a so-called ‘cleaner job’ will automatically take effect, which will subsequently perform a check-out via the system. The cleaner job should only be used in an emergency, so check-out must always be performed immediately after the end of the journey. There is no entitlement to a subsequent correction of the journey price.
My mobile phone is broken. How can I access my D-Ticket?
To access the D-Ticket, you must have a functional smartphone that meets the requirements for correct use of the myVRN-app. In addition, the myVRN-app must be installed on the device. You must also be logged into your VRN account. If your current smartphone is not functional, you will need a replacement device on which the myVRN-app must also be installed. You can log into your VRN account from any device. It is not possible to issue a replacement ticket by any other means.
I want to buy a D-ticket, but it's not working.
To purchase a D-Ticket, you must have a VRN account and have registered a valid payment method (debit or credit card or PayPal). If these requirements are met, you can purchase a D-Ticket. If the purchase of the D-ticket is declined, this is usually because the payment provider (issuer of the debit or credit card or PayPal) has declined the payment. We therefore recommend that you contact and clarify the situation with the payment provider (issuer of the debit or credit card or PayPal). Once the situation has been successfully clarified, you can try to make the purchase again.
I don't have internet access at my start or end stop
The VRN is not responsible for a lack of local network coverage.
An internet connection is required for both check-in and check-out. If this is not available, it is not possible to use the Luftlinientarif correctly. There is no entitlement to a subsequent correction of the fare.
Similarly, tickets can only be purchased with an internet connection.
If there is no internet connection to use the Luftlinientarif or to purchase tickets, other purchase options are available (on the bus, from a ticket machine or at a sales point).
